The Basketball Season is Over. What’s next?

Coach discussing with athlete in gym

So, your season is officially over. What are you going to do next?

Of course, there is a short transition to AAU basketball but I want to take a step back and do a deeper dive to reflect on the past season. I find it helpful to sit down and get honest with yourself with a handful of questions. This exercise can create greater awareness of what did or didn’t work, as well as what to do, or not to do next season.

Here are some questions to start with that only YOU can answer:

  • How did the season go overall?

  • Did you reach your team goals/personal goals?

  • What did you do well? Where do you feel you struggled?

  • How does your body feel at the end of the season? Fatigued? Energized?

  • What do you think contributed to you feeling one way or the other?

  • Did you gain or lose bodyweight during the season?

  • Did you gain or lose strength during the season?

  • What are your current strengths/weaknesses?

While this can be a ton to digest, it’s super important to give yourself honest feedback here. Don’t worry if you’re not able to answer every question with much depth. Use it as a chance to look back and ask, “Where can I get better?” and “What can I do differently to have a different or better outcome?”

This is where it’s important for us at Healthy Baller to keep track of important health and performance metrics for our athletes on a year round basis. We HAVE to know if our athletes are getting better or trending in the wrong direction at any point. It’s difficult to know if you are playing the guessing game.

Ultimately, you’ll want to know if you’re habits are supporting your ability to be successful or if some habits may be hurting you.

Be sure to check in with your Healthy Baller Coach to help with feedback and/or make any adjustments coming into the AAU season
