Pre-season

Here, we’ll lay the foundation for your upcoming season to get you in the best shape possible. We’ll focus on speed work, conditioning, strength, power, and agility so you hit the season in stride.

Lower-volume strength training is key to preventing injuries and keeping your performance at its peak. Our coaches will work with you to create a custom program to keep you strong, mobile, and ready to take on any game.

You need time to recover post-season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep training. Light movement, mobility work, and strength maintenance will help you maintain your strength and endurance for next season.

How HB Hoopers got started

Blair O’Donovan, founder of Healthy Baller, has been training athletes in the DMV for over 20 years. He’s worked with major events like the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Skills Academy Camps, and Nike’s All-Asia Camps in China.

He’s helped local teams like Montrose Christian and Gonzaga College High School excel. And it was here that he met a talented sophomore named Wes Dunning. At Hampton University, Wes played at the Division 1 level from 2009-2013 and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament and the NCAA March Madness “Big Dance” tournament championships.

After playing at Hampton and gaining experience as a strength and conditioning intern, Wes reconnected with Blair in 2015. In 2018, while Blair worked with the Washington Wizards as Director of Player Preparation, Wes created the HB Hoopers program to help high school and college players stay sharp in the offseason and return to the court at their best.

In 2020, Blair returned to Healthy Baller full-time and teamed up with Wes to grow the HB Hoopers program throughout all of the Healthy baller locations. All of our basketball players can expect a well-rounded experience that goes beyond just the workouts, which helps our athletes improve their skills, strength and overall game no matter what time of the year.

Frequently asked questions

What is the HB Hoopers program?

It’s a comprehensive basketball athletic development program designed to help you become the best, most well-rounded athlete you can be. You’ll work on speed and power drills, strength and conditioning, and agility training to take your performance to a new level.

We focus on overall athleticism as well as power development, lateral speed work, strength, and basketball-specific conditioning. This approach ensures you’re not only improving your baseline fitness, but you’ll be ready for anything on the court.

Definitely! We understand that athletes often play multiple sports, and our training is designed to improve your overall athleticism, no matter your sporting background. Whether basketball is your main focus or you’re juggling it with other sports, our programs will help you improve your speed, strength, and mental resilience, making you a better athlete across the board.

Not at all. The Healthy Baller team welcomes everyone ready to challenge themselves in a fun and community-driven environment—no matter your starting point.
